We excellent service and quality food. The Ruben is the best I've ever had.

I love the atmosphere at Mel's. It reminds me of the old-time drive-in eateries of my youth. But, although Mel's has that feeling, I was disappointed with the unexpected, overcooked Fish n Chips. Hopefully the other locations haven't changed their process.

They now have vegan selections. Try the beyond burger burrito - it's fantastic! You wouldn't even know it's plant based.

This is my go to fun place for my Impossible Burger 🍔 with onion rings treat! It’s just comfort food for the soul. Love the chill atmosphere and having a kickback date night with the hubby before a movie 🎥 or picking up and watching Netflix. I also really love their juices for a pick me up. Yum 😋! Health in a glass. Or a good old fashioned breakfast 🥞 of pancakes & eggs 🍳. Playing some tunes on the jukebox. Its all about the simple little pleasures in life that bring so much joy.

Pleasantly surprised. Mel's has done a good job of maintaining the American Diner experience while still keeping up with contemporary eating trends. Veggie and GF options available. If you like diner food, it's great! Just don't expect the same experience as going to a top chef joint South Of Market. If you like burgers, booths, shakes, and beers, this is a good spot

Unfortunately the service is bad. Our waiter forgotten to bring my coffee. Reminded. Than I was waiting to pay for about 15 min, he brought me check and I prepared my credit card but he was just passing away again and again ignoring us. And didn’t asked me about loyalty program. After a loong wait I left my table, found manager and told him I wait for 15 minutes and want to pay. No apologies. When their terminal asked for tips I told the manager I won’t leave tips because the waiter ignored us and I expected for manager’s apology. He just told “Ok”. My previous experience in Los Angeles was much much better. Really, change the team or at least train and pay attention to how they provide client service

Food was good, service was ok. Server was very inattentive. Worth a second try as I got the impression the service issue was a fluke.

They have something for everyone. Too bad they hiked up the prices. It's now overpriced for the food quality. We stopped going to Mels

It was exceptional! Kids and I stopped by at around 7 PM and enjoyed every morsel of our meals. The staff was super friendly as well. We will be back soon!

I'm on a trip across California and this is the best diner I've ever been too. Great aesthetics. Very kind stuff and great food. A must to visit. Gives you all the old school diner vibes. I'd love to come back here one day. Have some photos with the amazing neons.

Oh so nostalgic. 50's decore. Got burgers n fries. It was really good. But got sticker shock. There was 3 of us n we all got the same order. Cost $65.00. Wow. Will probably drive past it next time.

Service is really good, but the food is expensive and mediocre.

Loved it. Fabulous 50s diner setting, avocado toasts to die for, great coffee and freshly squeezed OJ, friendly service. A great American diner experience for visitors like us.

We were privileged to be hosted by a hospitable couple last weekend on the eve of the NFL finals. We took this recommendation of dining 50s American style, the other being a glass restaurant with a view of the Pacific Ocean and a beach at the end of Golden Gate park i.e. the Beach Chalet Brewery and Restaurant.The myriad of choices from the menu is like stepping into a garden maze, you get lost deciphering which combination (and yet want to try everything) but only have so much time (and one stomach).Highly recommended definitely for the experience if not for the food which to me is still excellent.

This is a very authentic 50s diner. We loved the (very thick) black and white milkshake as well as the short rib sliders! Great for a casual meal with out of town friends, but not necessarily great as a regular dining option.

Love the old school feel here! Delicious burgers! The Sunset burger is our favorite! Customer service is also great!

For a quick meal it is excellent no waiting around the food is on the table within 10 minutes or sooner their coffee is excellent thank you very much

They took a bit too long to make my bagel, but made up for it by making it on the house without me even saying anything. Just a great place to enjoy a few cups of coffee and read a book. Everything you want out of a diner down to the kind customer service

Just like any other Mel's diner I've been to, but they do have sweet potato fries. Which are very tasty.

The people that work there are really happy. They are fun to watch . The food is good and they usually have parking in front so you can watch your vehicle.

Great tasty place with a lot of American food options. The best thing is that you can drive in when the most other places don't have their parking spots.

The service to me is regular fast, clean and fresh food. Usually good selection from a menu with breakfast but has classic diner background along with $0.25 jukebox at the table. This is cool to watch: At the end of a meal, busboys clean off the table in seconds to prepare for the next guests. Steak and eggs was $ 8 - $10.

Classic diner fare in an iconic setting with historical roots. If you're looking for that specifically, this is the place. Menu items are described well and made in true diner fashion, modern healthy trends be damned. The kids menu is also a typical list, but not much goes into making anything spectacular, just adequate.

3.5 Stars. Has something for everyone and parking! Definetly overpriced.

Old school diner that is super clean. Great service, and pretty good diner fare. Can't go wrong here.

A SF landmark. Open late. Table jukeboxes and American Grafitti movie decor. It ratchets Denny's up a few notches. Free parking is usually plentiful. Sure you can get a burger but how many places have a year round late night turkey dinner?

We were so hungry when we got here. Good thing too because the portions were big. I had the grilled cheese with rib meat. Excellent flavor. My sweet potato fries hit the spot too. The atmosphere is so '50s and I loved it. The music was fabulous. The uniforms they have to wear are cool too. This was a bit expensive, however we are in San Francisco, so what do you expect. Great food. Would go back.

Mel’s diner is a really good place to go out and get some late night American food options. They have some really good dessert options and milkshakes as well.

Just classic. Pricy, low quality cooking. Simple menu, nothing fancy.

Expensive. American food with okay taste. Lots of food served, depending on how much you order. Reminds me of 40's to 60's type diner's with the feeling of the old days. Go there for lunch at least once. I recommend it to vacationing people for the experience of the old days, ( kind of the old days).

Wanted to check out the iconic Mel's Drive-In. Extensive menu, but overpriced for what you get. Got an avocado bacon burger, for $19. Other burgers were comparable. Sub par. Service was alright considering we were one of the 3 other tables there. Glad we got to check it out, but probably won't be back again. Many other diners that do it better.

Classic and nostalgic, great service and tasty burgers. We ordered a black bean burgers and a meat patty, both were great! The ambiance is always fun. Good jukebox tunes, not too loud and each table had its own fresh flowers in water, cute added touch. Great classic San Francisco establishment!

My dad came for breakfast and while he’s usually pretty easygoing, he had nothing good to say about this spot. He’s been to the Mel’s in Cow Hollow and was fine with that, although it’s unclear whether that’s based on the location or his order. He ordered a breakfast meal with some sort of meat and potatoes, and was shocked when the potatoes consisted of two thin slices under each piece of meat, and the meal didn’t come with bread so they charged him $4 for a bagel and another $4 for a basic cup of drip coffee. I generally think breakfast is a rip-off so I can’t say that I’m shocked, but a basic diner breakfast for 1 person shouldn’t cost $25. Two stars rather than one because the food was fine and didn’t make anyone sick, and I need to be able to differentiate the bad from the truly dangerous. I’d go get an espresso drink and a baked good somewhere else if it were me.

Terrible experience. I ordered delivery from Mel’s. I live about 1 mile from this location. The expected delivery time was an hour. Mind you I know they didn’t need to make my food (meatloaf dinner) as it’s something already cooked. After an hour they changed the quote to 2 hours. I called and the restaurant said my food was ready and would picked up soon. It finally arrived after 95 minutes of waiting. I guarantee if I went into the restaurant in person it would not take 60 minutes to get my food once I place my order. On top of that my meatloaf was only half meatloaf. It was a very thin slice of meatloaf served on top of a dry hamburger patty. I’m not making this up. They were different textures. The meatloaf part was delicious! I also ordered cheesecake which for $8 was a thin slice of frozen cheesecake. Such a rip off. I get the same exact cheesecake when I order pizza for half the price. So many other places in San Francisco to get diner food.

"One of my favorites-go-to diner in the city. Great pabulum and great accommodation. I peregrinated here at night and got the French dip sandwich for about ~$19 (with curly fries) and it was authentically good! Came with perfect au jus sauce to dip with the sandwich and horseradish sauce for the curly fries.Overall great environment, and open pretty tardy if you're in the city during the later hours. 50s diner feels and milkshakes are the bombs! I highly recommend it if you're in the area."

The absolute worst breakfast Omelette I have ever had! The eggs were not completely cooked. The Omelette was very thin and folded over the veggies, not cooked with them. And they don't put cheese on it! What is a real Omelette without cheese? The vegetables seem to have been boiled! And they were difficult to chew. However, the Cappuccino that I ordered was tasty, huge and hot!I was seated on the counter close to the cash register, I had to continually flag down my waitress for any service needs.

Pricy but food is very good

Non-existent service. Literally. Not served so had to leave. If you’re after great burgers on Geary there are so many other options (as I had to inconveniently discover), like Native Burgers just up the road. Not just amazing burgers and fries, but great service 🤙
